No fewer than 400 vulnerable members in Akoko South West Local Government Area have be empowered by Ondo State Commissioner for Agriculture, Otunba Gboyega Adefarati.
Speaking briefly at the poverty alleviation programme, the Commissioner whose father was a former Governor of the State, late Chief Ade Adefarati, described the voluntary cash gift as is a measurecto bring succour to the people and cushion the effects of the COVID-19 plague.
Adefarati noted that the State Government had earlier given materials and health advice to the to checkmate the hardship of citizens.
"The palliative is meant to cushion the effect of coronavirus; there is need to assist many compatriots who no longer can carry out their daily activities to eke a living, due to the stay at home order
"This is just a way of giving back to the society, and I shall continue to complement what the Governor along this line.^
The commissioner also maintained that the five thousand naira stipend he gave to the needy, was to demonstrate the love and commitment of his boss, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu, to hood governance and general development.
Meanwhile, Adefarati urged the vulnerables to comply with the directives of medical professionals; such as maintaining good personal and environmental hygiene.
Describing the empowerment, one of the chieftains of All Progress Congress (APC) in the LGA, Hon. Augustine Oloruntogbe, extolled Otunba Adefarati, for his generosity and moral sagacity.
Oloruntogbe, further advocated the need for health education amongst the people to contain the community spread of the deadly and contagious Coronavirus.
On his part, APC Chairman in the LGA, Elder Seinde Mise, A
appreciated the Commissioner for deeming it fit to identify with the less privileged in their moment of utter need.
Mise also appealled to the residents and stakeholders in the area to support the State Government's initiative in combating covid19.
One of the beneficiaries, simply identified as Orunkoyi Ajayi, expressed gratitude at the cash gift that was presented to him and others. He prayed for more wealth and good health to the political crown prince, Otunba Adefarati
The beneficiaries maintained social distancing at the residence of the Commissioner in Akungba, and people without hope were picked from 15 Wards of the Local Government.
