Allegation against me reckless, untrue —Ondo Dep Governor
The Ondo state government has alleged that the state Deputy Governor, Hon Agboola Ajayi has concluded plans to organise series of mass protests against Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu in his alleged desperation to usurpe power from his boss.
The state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Donald Ojogo who spoke on behalf of the governor, made the allegation while speaking with newsmen in Akure, the state capital.
Akeredolu explained that intelligence had confirmed that the Deputy Governor had released funds for the first face of the planned protests slated for this week’s Wednesday in Akure and Abuja.
The governor had last week Wednesday announced to the people of the state of contracting Coronavirus pandemic and last Friday he told the public through the state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Donald Ojogo that he is not incapacitated and would continue to discharge his official duties from his isolation at Government’s House, Akure.
However, the Deputy Governor through his media Adviser, Allen Sowore enjoined the governor to handover power to him in compliance with Section 190(2) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), since he had contracted COVID-19 pandemic.
Ojogo noted that Agboola was in hurry to unseat his boss through the backdoor by allegedly creating a situation of crisis in the state.
The Commissioner said one of the protests would be held in Akure by mobilising fake Students’ leaders and miscreants to stage “Occupy Alagbaka Government House” to create a situation of crisis to seek power transfer to the suspected sponsor of the protest.

According to Ojogo, the second protest is being planned by the deputy governor to hold at the National Secretariat of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abuja by producing vest with APC governorship aspirants’ inscriptions to demand that “they do not want Akeredolu but the party can pick one of the remaining aspirants.”
The government’s Spokesman, who disclosed that security agencies had been briefed properly on the unholy protests both in Akure and Abuja, urged parents to restrain their children from participating in illegal political demonstrations.
“He (Agboola) has released some funds to a fake students’ Union activist to organise protests against Mr Governor to be tagged ‘Occupy Alagbaka Government House’.”
“The said activist is a former aide to the governor but working the office of the Deputy Governor but he was sacked recently; the first phase of the protest is on Wednesday (this week) and another will be held in Abuja at the APC National Secretariat, we have briefed the security agencies appropriately.
He insisted that Governor Akeredolu had continued to perform his duties from his isolation in the Government House, adding that there was no vacuum in the government and the governor was not incapacitated to warrant the deputy governor to be hammering on the enforcement of the 1999 Constitution.
Ojogo attributed the comment by Agboola to another clear desperation by the PDP governorship aspirant to take over power from his boss even before his time.
He said the planned protests by Agboola were repulsive, sympathized with the deputy governor for planning to be governor at all cost without waiting for his time.
“This is not the first time the Deputy Governor will be planning to take over power desperately, last year when the governor was recuperating, he made similar move. We sympathize with him in his desperation for power, he should wait for God’s appointed time for him.
“God will continue to sustain Mr Governor to deliver on his mandate for the people of the state. By God’s grace, Mr Governor is unlikely to be in isolation for 21days,” Ojogo said.
In his reactions, on behalf of the Deputy Governor, his Chief Press Secretary, (CPS), Babatope Okeowo described the allegation as unfound and reckless.
According to Okeowo, the Deputy Governor doesn’t need to organise protests before the constitution will take its course since the governor is sick.
“The statement and allegation from the Commissioner is reckless, the Deputy Governor was elected and he is not elected. We have seen similar situation in Kaduna, (Governor Nasir) Elrufai and even in Ebonyi state (governor), they contracted COVID-19 and they handed over to their deputies.
“So, no plan whatsoever to organise a protest by the deputy governor, it is an unfounded and reckless allegation,” the CPS said.
Also speaking, the media adviser to the Deputy Governor, Allen Sowore dismissed the allegation.
“It’s not true. The Deputy Governor is busy consulting with the leaders of the People’s Democratic Party- from one local government to another.
“You see, the Deputy Governor has become the nightmare of the Akeredolu’s camp. This is the same man that they have said has no electoral value, now they’re sleepless,” Sowore said.
