The Governor of Ondo State, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN and the Olukare of Ikare, Oba Akadri Saliu Momoh today expressed thier empathy over the scores of lives that has been lost in the Oke Alabojuto area of the commercial town in Akoko North East Area of the State.
Akeredolu, who visited the Olukare Palace in continuation of his reelection campaign told the motley crowd of indigenous people and party supporters that recieved him that consistent deaths at Oke Alabojuto axis of the town gave him many sleepless nights until the road was completely dualized by his government.
The paramount ruler of the town, Oba Momoh, also narrated how persistent accidents on the road gave him a high blood pressure, saying his wound has now been healed.
"I thank you for the warm reception given to me. During the about to be completed first term, we fixed three dilapidated bridges here in Ikare. We completely dualized Oke Alabojuto road against the run of play.
"My government also tarred the jubilee road. We rejuvenated some moribund primary schools. We installed solar here. Let me particularly state with all sense of modesty that the consistent Deaths at Oke Alabojuto Road gave me series of sleepiness nights until the project was completed.
"I was once a Commissioner for Justice in this state. The road had been killing scores of people for over 30 years but today, we have broken the jinx. What God enabled us to achieve at Oke Alabojuto was against the run of play. There was a time over 50 lives were lost. We cannot question the unquestionable God.
Speaking further, Akeredolu said "the economy of Ikare is also very paramount to us. By the grace of God, we shall sell the economic potentials of this town to investors in second term. Ikare has been the commercial nerves centre of Akoko, we shall assist you to sustain the pedigree."
Corroboting the emotion-ladden speech of Akeredolu, Oba Momoh, said " We all thank God for the visitation of the Governor, sincerely, the hilly part of the town called Oke Alabojuto had been a death trap, but we can now sleep with our two eyes closed. The road gave me high blood pressure due to sleepless nights but the Akeredolu administration has helped to heal my wound.
"The ongoing dualization of the entire Ikare Trunk A road is a capital project that is worthwhile. We are very grateful sir. I am particularly happy that this is happening during my reign. I am happy that I am alive to witness this uncommon transformation of Ikare. May you not be out to shame" the first class monarch said.
Ealier, the Governor paid a visit to the palace of Owa Ale of Ikare, Oba S.k.A Adedoyin, who died recently.
Akeredolu, in his condolence message, said "during Oba Owa Ale life's time, he was a resourceful person, we attended series of conferences together. The demise was painful because this is the actual time we needed him. I urge you all to manage that he has left behind, from time immemorial, Owa Ale has been good.
"We have started a twin-road in Ikare and we shall finish everything we started in honour of Owa Ale, and for the good people of this town. I also plead with you, in honour of our revered leader, to disregard deceitful politicians trying to pitch Akoko people against Owo people because we are one. Owo and Akoko maintains an intimate relationship," the governor declared.
In his remarks, a close ally of the late Owa Ale, Chief Olabisi Babajide promised to mobilize the people for the reelection bid of Akeredolu.
Facing Akeredolu eye-to-eye, Chief Babajide said "We will vote massively for you because during Owa-Ale's lifetime, he urged us to throw our weight behind you. We will support you to the end and we will never forget the legacy projects you have executed in our land"
In his remark, member representing Akoko North East and Akoko North West in the House of Representatives who is the Chairman, House Committee on Niger/Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Hon. Bunmi Tunji-Ojo, urged the people of the local government to throw their weight behind Akeredolu, stating that he was able to facilitate the reconstruction of Arigidi-Oke Agbe road project because of the suport he got from the Governor.
"If not for the support of Governor Akeredolu, many projects currently being executed in Akoko, through NDDC, against the run of play, could have been a mirage if not for the intervention of the Governor" Tunji-Ojo declared.
On the campaign train with Akeredolu were the Director-General, Akeredolu/Aiyedatiwa Campaign Organisation, Rt. Hon. Victor Olabimtan, Nigerian Ambassador to Togo, Amb. Sola Iji, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Olugbenga Ale, Member Representing Owo/Ose Federal Constituency, Hon. Timi Adelegbe.
Others notable bigwigs with Akeredolu were Akogun Gbenga Omole, former Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Ifedayo Abegunde, Former Reps Member, Hon. Stephen Olemija and Former Senatorial Candidate of African Democratic Congress (ADC), ChiefJide Ipinsagba.
Also on the entourage of Akeredolu were the state chairman of the ruling All ProgressivesCongress (APC), Engr. Ade Adetimehin, Akeredolu's running mate, Mr Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, Ex-Reps member, Hon. Gbenga Elegbeleye, former Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Dare Emiola, amongst others.
