Traditional medicine practitioner has stressed the needs for the government at all levels to pay more attention to the promotion and development of Yoruba culture and tradition.
The group said the move would further promote the norms, value and well tradition of the Yoruba race and prevents it from going into extinction.
The traditionalist under the aegis of "Ogbon Awon Agba" (OAA) also called on the government to pay more attention to the development of traditional medicine, saying the move if properly look into may be a source of revenue to the government.
The National President of the group, Dr Kazeem Adepoju, made the assertion in Ado-Ekiti at the weekend during the grand finally of the three-day annual convention organised by members of the association.
Adepoju who described the exercise as awareness programme organized for members of the association in the south-west geo-political zone and abroad was aimed towards resuscitating culture and the indigenous languages in Yoruba region.
He decried what he called inability of the Federal Government to use traditional approach to tackle the security challenges currently confronting the country, he reiterated the readiness of his association to tackle the menace and put an end to it.
The traditionalist equally lamented on how some parents who he said were found in the habit of not speaking their languages to their wards, the development which he said has caused harmful effect to culture and traditions in the society.
While expressing fear over what he called some African traditional and indigenous lexicons that are greatly endangered and may soon go into what he called extinction in no distant time.
As a way of overcoming the menace, the OAA president called on the Government at all levels, relevant organisations, religious bodies as well as non-governmental organizations to assist his association in promotion of culture and embrace the use of traditional method to solve the menace of insecurity in the country.
Also speaking, the legal adviser to the association, Bar. Michael Oyinsakin, described the programme as 8th edition to be organized by the association, noted that the programme as an awareness and educational summit organized by the leadership of the association in order to prevent Yoruba culture and traditional medicine from dying.
The legal practitioner decried what he called the attitude of the government by abandoning traditional medicine, called on the Federal Ministry of Culture and Tourism to focus more attention on the promotion of culture and traditional medicine.
He described members of the association as responsible citizens who have respect for the constitution of the country, stressed the need for members to always respect the fundamental right of every individual in the society.
In a remark on the occasion, a senior member of the association, who is also the Vice President, Mr. Tajudeen Ologbenla, commended the leadership of the association for the success of the programme.
While lauding them for what he called promotion of Yoruba culture and traditional medicine and make it more attractive, he however solicited for support of the government in the promotion of traditional medicine.
The three-day programme which was attended by members of the association from the south-west region, featured activities like spiritual cleansing, induction of new members, award presentation, election of new executive members, spiritual incantation as well as prayers for the wellbeing of the south-west and Nigeria in general.
