Gov. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has stressed the need for required tools and military hardware for the Nigerian Armed Forces to tackle the menace of terrorism, banditry, kidnapping and armed robbery across the country.
Akeredolu made this known in Akure during the 2021 Armed forces remembrance day and laying of wreaths.
Akeredolu, who said the present security architecture in the country needed re-engineering, reiterated the call for the provision of modern equipment for security agencies to help with the confrontation of all criminal activities in the country.
The governor also said there was the need for proper policing of every nook and cranny of Nigeria.
"The regular Nigeria Police cannot do it alone, other security agencies must, as a matter of urgency, step in to secure the country," he said.
Speaking with newsmen, Rtd Col.Olu Apata, Chairman, Nigerian Legion, Ondo State, lauded the efforts of the present administration with the welfare of the legionnaires.
He advised the serving soldiers to be diligent in their duties in order to make their country proud.
Also speaking with newsmen, Mrs Roselyn Alarape, a widow of a fallen hero, thanked the governor for the gesture of a collateral-free loan distributed to the widows, and dependants of fallen heroes.
The State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development Mrs Titi Adeyemi commended the governor for given non collateral loan to the wife of fallen heroes and the living ones.
Mrs adeyemi urge the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the loan,said this will no doubt go along way in relieving them financially.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that a cheque of N5.45 million was presented to widows and dependants of fallen heroes, and wives of serving soldiers.
