Suspected hoodlums at the early hours of today vandalised a Toyota Hiace bus belonging to the Students' Union Government of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba-Akoko.
It was learnt that the incident happened along Ogbese road in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.
A video of the incident obtained by our correspondent showed that the rear glass of the vehicle was smashed by the attackers.
A source told our correspondent that “the students were on their way to Akure when one Okada rider bashed the bus and he was confronted for hitting the bus but he was said to have slapped one of the students”
“His action infuriated the students which later caused uproar in Ogbese”, the source said.
When contacted, the President of the Union, Ogunsanmi Kolade confirmed the incident.
He alleged that the hoodlums mangled the bus in defense of the motorcyclist.

In the bid to eapress our grievances in Akure, the capital city of Ondo state through a peaceful demonstration against this lingering ASUU strike, we (students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko) were conveyed in AAUA Students’ Union Bus to Akure in an orderly manner, singing Aluta songs peacefully. To our greatest amazement, we were brutally attacked by hoodlums at Ogbese.
While we couldn't identify all of them, but one of them was an Okada rider which seemed well known in that area. Also, one of those who joined to attack us was one of the women selling roasted yam along the road, she is as well known in the area for her habouring of hoodlums against the peaceful coexistence in the town.
Initially, we weren't conscious of their intent but most unfortunately, they attacked our bus and broke the glass, It was at this point that we fled the vehicle and ran for our dear lives. Some of our students were seriously injured that we had to rush them to state bospital Akure.
As law abiding citizens who put Faith in the laws of the land, peacefully going our own, It is sad that we're being victimized in the society that is being affected by ths unconcerned act of the Federal government.
If this act could be carried out in broad day light, an Students who hold a very high start in the polity of this nation, then we are afraid no one is safe in the hands of this hoodlums.
We hold it in high esteem that there is more to this attack and it should be duly investigated. In light of this, we call on the Ondo state government, Ondo state Commissioner of Police and other government parastatals to see to this and ensure the perpetrators didn't go unpunished and our damages be taken care of.
The vehicle of the AAUA Students’ Union which was seriously damaged must be repaired and the bills of those hospitalized must be footed by these hoodlums, Also, we urge you to use your good office to compell them to undertake that they won't attack any of our Union buses or student, whether now or in future, This is necessary as they also threatened to still attack us even more in future.
While we once again appreciate your unflinching, support so far, we look forward to an immediate response and action from you.
