Herders jailed for stealing cows in Ondo

A Magistrate’s Court, sitting in Odigbo has sentenced two men, Abdulai Ibrahim, 26 and Dauda Mohammed, 22, to ten years imprisonment, for stealing three cows valued at N900,000.

The Magistrate, Mr D.O. Ogunfuyi convicted the duo based on their guilty pleas and sentenced them accordingly.

Ogunfuyi, in his judgement, sentenced the first defendant to three years imprisonment on count one, and two years imprisonment for count two, while the second defendant was sentenced to three years imprisonment on count one, and two years imprisonment for count two.

According to the charge sheet, the defendants Abdulai Ibrahim ‘M’, Dauda Mohammed ‘M’, and Tajudeen Adiamot °M’ on  April 27,  2022 at midnight at Sabo Odigbo town in the Ore magisterial district  conspired to steal and receive stolen property.

“That you, Abdulai Ibrahim ‘M’ and Dauda Mohammed ‘M’ on the same date time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District stole three cows valued at about  N900,000, property of one Abubakar Mohammed.

The offences contravene Sections 516, 390(9), 427 of the Criminal Code Cap 37, Vol1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria 2006.

The first and second defendant who had no legal representation pleaded guilty to the offences, while the third defendant pleaded not guilty to the offence when the charge was read to them

The prosecutor, Inspector Usifo James while admitting the first and second defendants statements of guilt, said the case needed not be proved.

Counsel to the third defendant, Mrs K.M Lawani, prayed the court to grant him bail in most liberal terms.

The court, granted the third defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned till May 18, 2022, for mention of the third defendant’s case.
