Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu has been urged to drop the idea of selling off Sunshine Stars Football Club as the team is the source of joy for Football lovers in and outside the state
The Chairman of Sunshine Stars Football Supporters Club Mr Felix Olowa in a chat with newsmen in Akure the state capital said Sunshine Stars remain one of the state's legacies, adding that the supporters club were against any idea outside the Public Private Partnership (PPP) earlier proposed by the government.
Olowa added that the club, which was founded in 1995 by the former Military Administrator of the state ,Col. Ahmed Usman could be a good means of internally generated revenue for the state if it's well managed .
The Chairman said Akeredolu,who is well known as a sports loving Governor and a staunch supporter of Shooting Stars of Ibadan, should consider the interest of the majority ahead few individuals who are only pursuing their parochial interest.
"Selling off the 27years old team is not in the interest of the people of the state , for this reason we appeal to the Governor to jettison the idea which would have a negative impact on its administration"
"We reiterate that football is a veritable source of income if approach with right attitude and holistic approach are explore by the Government."
Sunshine Stars FC could be transformed into a high class revenue yielding outfit like Eyimba FC, Enugu Rangers, Lobi Stars and host of others if it pursues players marketing packages with vigour and right professionals put in place towards driving the initiative effectively and efficiently.
"Football loving people and enthusiastic football stakeholders in Ondo State are opposed to propose arrangement to selling the club off."
