INEC sensitizes corps members in Oyo, harps on credible electoral duties




The Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Oyo State Dr Adeniran Rahmon Tella has charged corps members deployed to Oyo State and dislodged from Lagos for 2022 Batch C stream ll Orientation Course to discharge their electoral duties creditably during the fourth coming 2023 General Election.

He described NYSC as INEC most critical partner when carrying out it's statutory responsibilities, he therefore expresses  his confidence that corps members who would be deployed for election duties will resist manipulations by politicians and ones again give Nigeria a free, fair and credible election .

The REC made the call during his sensitization lecture at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp Iseyin.

Dr Adeniran Tella said as part of the objectives of the National Youth Service Corps programme which was clearly enumerated in Decree No. 51 of 16th June 1993. Stating the effective utilization of their Skills in area of national needs hence their recruitment to perform sensitive role of  presiding Officers at polling units.

Commending the selflessness, dedication and commitments of members of the National Youth Service Corps towards the successful conduct of elections in the country, he declares that Nigeria is fortunate to have NYSC.

He is therefore pleased with the NYSC/INEC collaboration.

He enjoined the corps members to carry out their electoral duties with the highest standard of integrity, impartiality, transparency, professionalism, gender sensitivity and support for the elderly and those who are physically challenged.

The REC assured corps members of adequate security, he said the commission  will deploy joint Security and Safety teams to all INEC assets and facilities to forestall attacks and to protect lives and properties.

He emphasized that corps members would be adequately briefed on the perilous nature of their assignment before deployment, and they would be taught basic survival and security tactics especially the use of INEC security App and they would be provided with quick security backups whenever threats are envisaged.

Earlier in her welcome address, the State Coordinator National Youth Service Corps Oyo State, Mrs Grace Ogbuogebe informed the REC that corps members have been sensitized on the need for them to do their best while carrying out election duties.

The SC also noted that recently the Acting Director South West Area Office, visited the Orientation Camp and he implored the corps on the need for them to perform their roles as election umpires in accordance with the Electoral Act in order to justify their involvement in the election process and to avoid any act that tarnish the image of the noble Scheme.

Ogbuogebe assured him that the NYSC Management would not relent in ensuring that CMs do the right thing while in the field.
