Oyo corps members tasked to move with the trend of self employment





The State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps, Oyo State, Mr Odoba Abel Oche has urged corps members to move with the trend of self employment and entrepreneurship rather than searching for non-available white collar jobs.

He encouraged the corps members to embrace valuable entrepreneural ideas that will reduce the unemployment rate in the country.

The State Coordinator stated this while delivering his address during the flag off ceremony of Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development Programme for 2023 Batch 'B'stream one Orientation Course. 

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Scheme at ensuring that corps members pass out from service with a clear vision.

Odoba stated that acquiring a Skill will make them progress, build their confidence, potentially find career opportunities and also have a sense of achievements.

He added that people with Skills do not go for job hunting because their skills are better off. 

He urged the corps members to acquire the knowledge and skills in order to equip themselves for a meaningful life after service in the absence of white collar jobs.

" Those who have skills stand the chance of gaining more jobs from many establishment" he advised.

The Head of SAED in Camp, Mrs Obayelu Roseline in her remark said SAED is an important part of the NYSC Orientation Course, adding that there are lots of unemployed youths , and that with each graduation the number rises, hence the role of SAED as a means of equipping the corps members with skills that will make them employers of labor rather than job seekers.


She therefore implored them to acquire one or more skills that would be introduced to them namely: Agro-allied, Automobile, Cosmetology, Bead Making,  Make-up and gele,Food processing, Cosmetology, Paint making, Plumbing,
Garment making, Shoe and bag making amongst others.

Present at the event were the SAED monitoring Officer from NDHQ Mrs Oluchi Abah , the State Coordinator National Directorate of Employment, Mrs Steve Ogundipe , motivational speaker, Mr Olatunji Olasunkanmi and Camp Officials.
