To mark this year’s international day of sport for peace and development, a Non-Governmental Organisation, Blitzik sports and Community sports education development CESD have urged all Nigerians irrespective of their tribes, religion, difference and tolerate one another for a prosperous society through sports.
The United Nation recognises April 6th globally as International Day of Sports for Peace and Development.
Addressing some sports stakeholders,school sports masters and netball players in a novelty match organised to preach peace and unity in Nigeria at the car park of the Akure sports complex.
President and founder of CESD Mr Cornelius Ehimiaghe who was represented by Mr Isaac Afolabi who is also the director of Blitzik sports called on all relevant stakeholders to ensure restoration of peace and unity in Nigeria especially in troubled areas stressing that no development cannot can take place in a place of anarchy.
Mr Ehimiaghe appealed to everyone in the world to give peace a chance,allow development and also charged parents not to discourage their children from engaging in any sporting activities of their choice which would help them mentally and physically.
A guest and the director of coaching at the Ondo state sports council Mr Sunday Fagite represented by coach Babatunde Ayodele while speaking on the numerous advantages of sports, called on government at all levels to invest in sports as it has power to curb social vices, disengage youths from negative ideas to a meaningful ventures.
He also said sports being a universal factor if given much attention would solve many crisis and bring about peace and development of people in the world.
On his part, chairman sports writers association of Nigeria SWAN Ondo chapter Mr Segun Giwa challenged Nigerians to unite,break all barriers for a meaningful development in our society.
Corroborating the SWAN chairman,a former sprinter in Ondo state Mr Saheed Ibrahim and a former SWAN chairman Mr Wahab Bankole emphasized on peace globally,calling on everyone to avoid any action that could trigger violence and use sports to preach peace globally.
Speaking on the effort of the state Netball,a netball coach in Ondo state Mrs Olawunmi Olunebi said the game of netball which is gaining more popularity in the state have plans to develop more players for the state and country.
Two of the netball players Temitope Adisa and Taye Oluwafemi who have been participating in Netball training organised by the state coaches expressed satisfaction and desire to be more involved.
