The police have released the body of Mathew Ademakinwa Fagbohun for burial after he was shot dead at his son‑in‑law’s house in Ibadan, Oyo State.
Fagbohun, (age not disclosed), was killed on 10 June 2024 at Adu Close, Arometa, Eleyele, Ibadan.
He was allegedly murdered by members of a cult believed to be the Aye Confraternity. The suspects reportedly came to the house looking for Fagbohun’s son‑in‑law, Mr Adewale Ademola Ojebiyi, after he refused to cooperate with them in an illegal money‑laundering scheme linked to a Nigerian politician and a drug‑trafficking network operating in South Africa.
According to relatives, the cultists had previously targeted Mr Adewale and his family. In February 2020 they attacked him in Abuja, leaving razor‑blade marks on his hands, and again in Lagos in 2022 when he was shot in the right leg.
The latest attack, on 10 June, ended with the cult members shooting Fagbohun in the left side of his chest, killing him on the spot.
The police have handed over Fagbohun’s corpse to his family for burial. No arrests have been announced, and investigations are ongoing.
The family says they are awaiting justice and are grateful to the authorities for the release of the body.
