The State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps Ondo State, Mrs. Kuburat Omowumi Bakare has admonished the camp marketers to conduct their business in line with the best global practices.
Accordingly, the State Coordinator tasked the operators to display high standard of discipline, maintain a neat and hygienic environment as well as comply with camp rules during the 2025 Batch 'A' (Stream 1) orientation course.
Speaking on Tuesday during an interactive session with the registered camp marketers at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare-Akoko, Bakare called for a harmonious relationship amongst all stakeholders, stressing that the welfare and proper orientation of corps members remain the top priority of the management.
Accompanied by the Camp Director, Pastor (Mrs.) Jennifer Funmilola Dawodu, she warned that any camp market operator found harbouring corps members during programmes and activities would be shown the way out.
The Coordinator stressed that full participation of all members of the service corps during official camp activities, as participation in all scheduled programmes is compulsory and non negotiable, saying that the market operators should complement management's effort in implementing the camp timetable by discouraging any distraction that may prevent corps members from attending sessions.
On market operations, the NYSC boss reiterated the need for strict adherence to the officially regulated prices of goods and services, asserting that there must be total compliance with the approved price list and warned that any act of exploitation will not be tolerated.
The NYSC Ondo top Officer also highlighted the importance of food safety and hygiene, insisting that only high-quality ingredients must be used in preparing meals and other items sold in the camp market. She noted that hygienic facilities, including restrooms, have been made available and must be maintained to ensure a clean and healthy environment.
Addressing issues of misconduct, she strongly warned against inappropriate relationships between marketers and corps members, describing such behaviour as a violation of camp rules.
"You are regarded as parents to these corps members while they are under our care. Any attempt to exploit or take undue advantage of them will attract severe sanctions from the management".
Furthermore, she disclosed that the policy banning underaged children in the orientation camp, due to its sensitive and regimented nature is still in force, and that no one is allowed to display, sell or consume x-rated products or substances at the market while reiterating that NYSC has zero tolerance for prohibited items.
In her own remarks, the Camp Director, Pastor (Mrs.) Jennifer Funmilola Dawodu, educated the camp market operators not to have a false belief that the orientation camp can not be relocated if they work against the stipulated laws of the NYSC Scheme.
She said that their cooperation is needed to have smooth operations, saying that their presence in camp should be a blessing and not otherwise.
The position of the State Coordinator and top camp officials underscored the commitment of the NYSC to maintaining order, safety and discipline throughout the orientation period, as the Scheme continues to uphold its values of national service and integrity in the Sunshine State.
