NYSC Coord champions Partnership for Mutual Benefits in Oyo

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Oyo State Coordinator, Mr. Kayode Ola Peters, has emphasized the importance of strengthening the partnership between NYSC and Corps employers for improved mutual benefits. 

He made this statement during the opening ceremony of the 2025 Corps Employers' Workshop, themed "Strengthening NYSC/Corps Employers' Partnership for Improved Mutual Benefits" held at the Grace Ogbuogebe Hall, NYSC Secretariat, Ibadan.

Peters highlighted the critical role played by Corps employers in ensuring the success of the NYSC scheme. 

He appreciated the support many employers have shown in areas such as accommodation, prompt issuance of letters of acceptance, supervision, and mentoring of Corps members.

The Coordinator acknowledged certain lapses on both ends, including issues of underutilization, nonchalant supervision, lack of welfare support, absenteeism, and misconduct by some Corps members. 

He emphasized the need to address these challenges and strive to uphold the core values of NYSC.

Peters expressed the NYSC management's commitment to strengthening enabling frameworks, improving communication channels, and providing necessary guidance to Corps employers. 

He encouraged active participation, open sharing of ideas, and meaningful contributions during the workshop.

According to him, "This workshop aims to evaluate the current state of the NYSC scheme, identify gaps, and chart actionable paths to better collaboration and mutual gains. 

"I believe that a well-supported Corps member will become a lasting asset to any employer and society.

"This workshop is expected to foster a stronger bond of trust, efficiency, and shared progress between NYSC and Corps employers.

Earlier, the Chairman of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Oyo State Governing Board, Hon. Wasilat Adegoke, reaffirmed the importance of the NYSC scheme in promoting national unity, youth development, and manpower integration.

Hon. Adegoke commended the management of NYSC under the leadership of Brigadier General OO Nafiu for initiating the workshop, which holds immense importance to the development of youths and the progress of the nation.

She emphasized that NYSC has remained one of the most impactful post-civil war initiatives geared towards national unity, youth development, and manpower integration.

The Chairman appreciated the critical role played by Corps employers, including government ministries, private organizations, schools, hospitals, and NGOs, in providing Corps members with platforms to learn, serve, and grow. 

She emphasized that the synergy between NYSC and Corps employers is crucial to the success of the scheme.

Hon. Adegoke however urged all stakeholders to join hands to make the NYSC scheme stronger and more impactful, emphasizing the need to develop a heart of gold and display love for Corps members, who are our children and must be treated as such 

The workshop provides an opportunity for stakeholders to deliberate on ways to improve the performance and effective operations of the NYSC scheme.
