The Coalition of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in Ondo State has entered a new chapter in its history with the successful conduct of its leadership election held today at the Babafunke Ajasin Auditorium, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Alagbaka, Akure.
The highly anticipated election brought together civil society actors from across the three senatorial districts of the state, reflecting the unity and diversity of the Coalition. The process was marked by transparency, participation, and a strong spirit of solidarity.
At the end of the election, Mr. Alo Martins, Executive Director of Upline Centre for Development, emerged as the newly elected Chairman of the Coalition. He will lead the new executive team in steering the affairs of the Coalition for the next four years.
Speaking shortly after his emergence, Mr. Alo Martins reaffirmed the core vision of the Coalition, emphasizing its commitment to strengthening civic engagement, promoting good governance, and fostering collaboration between civil society, government institutions, and the general public.
“This is a new dawn for our Coalition. Our goal remains clear—to build strategic relationships with the people and government for the collective development of Ondo State and Nigeria at large. We will work together to amplify citizens’ voices, champion transparency, and drive meaningful change,” he said.
In his remarks, the outgoing Chairman, Mr. Franklin Oloniju, expressed heartfelt gratitude to God for a successful and peaceful transition. He congratulated the newly elected executives and assured them of his unwavering support.
“Leadership is a relay, and I am proud to hand over the baton at this defining moment. I am happy to support the new team with the wisdom and experience of an elder. The strength of our Coalition lies in continuity, shared knowledge, and unity of purpose,” he said.
Mr. Martins also commended the Election Committee for its professionalism and expressed appreciation to all members who participated, whether physically or virtually. He extended an open hand of partnership to all contestants and stakeholders, stressing that unity will be the bedrock of his leadership.
The newly elected executive team is expected to begin work immediately, with a focus on repositioning the Coalition as a stronger, more coordinated platform for civil society action in the state.
This election marks a significant milestone in the history of the Coalition and sets the tone for a new era of active citizenship, accountable leadership, and collaborative development in Ondo State.
