RE: ONDO EAST GROUP DECLARATION OF ROTATIONAL ONDO EAST/WEST REPS SEAT
The attention of Ajilo Support Group has been drawn to a resolution purportedly emanating from an All Progressives Congress (APC) group meeting held at Bolorunduro, wherein a call was made for a rotational arrangement for the House of Representatives seat in favour of Ondo East Local Government.
This call is being made under the false narrative of the marginalisation of Ondo East in the representation of the Ondo East/West Federal Constituency since 1999.
As a responsible political movement in APC, 'Ajilo Support Group' cannot afford to ignore this misleading narrative, especially as it is clearly designed to hoodwink the innocent and well-meaning people of Ondo State into believing that this agenda is just and equitable. Far from it.
The following data clearly shows the equitable distribution of representation between Ondo East and Ondo West since 1999:
1. Hon. Dejo Akinnifesi (1999 - 2003)
Ondo East, Ward 3 (Bolorunduro) – 4 Years
2. Hon. Francis Soledayo Ogunniyi (2003 - 2007)
Ondo East, Ward 1 (Igba) – 4 Years
3. Hon. Temitayo Fawehinmi (2007 - 2011)
Ondo West, Ward 11 (Fagun) – 4 Years
4. Hon. Joseph Iranola Akinlaja (2011 - 2019)
Ondo East, Ward 7 (Lomitoto) – 8 Years
5. Hon. Peter Abiola Makinde (2019 - 2027) (ongoing)
Ondo West, Ward 7 (Olorunsola) – 8 Years
Ondo East Constituency: 16 Years
Ondo West Constituency 1: 12 Years
Ondo West Constituency 2: 0 Years (Nil)
Ondo East Local Government comprises 1 State Constituency.
Ondo West Local Government comprises 2 State Constituencies (Constituency 1 and 2), each with 6 wards.
Since 1999, Ondo West Constituency 2 has never produced a representative for the Federal Constituency.
Historically, Ondo Kingdom, which encompasses both Ondo East and Ondo West; remains an indivisible entity with a shared history, culture and tradition. At the creation of Ondo State, the entire area existed as one local government. The division into Ondo East and Ondo West was purely administrative to foster grassroots development, not to create division or entitlement.
It is disheartening to see certain political players attempting to use sentiment and misinformation as tools to manipulate public perception and promote unpopular candidate. Such actions, if unchecked, threaten the longstanding unity and brotherhood of Ondo Kingdom.
Based on the factual representation record, Ondo West Constituency 2, which has never had a turn since 1999, is the most marginalized and therefore most deserving of the next opportunity to represent the Federal Constituency.
The call for a rotational arrangement in favour of Ondo East, therefore, is: Self-serving, suspicious, unconstitutional and a threat to the unity of Ondo Kingdom
Ajilo Support Group hereby urges the general public to disregard in its entirety the so-called Bolorunduro declaration and reject any ploy aimed at dividing Ondo Kingdom along artificial lines of marginalisation.
Meanwhile, the electorate should be firm in supporting the most credible and competent candidate, regardless of local government origin, based on merit, vision and capability among the interested aspirants.
Together, let us uphold fairness, justice and unity in Ondo Kingdom.
