The newly elected leadership of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) Alumni Association has inaugurated its tenure with a transformative two-day retreat

The inauguration which was held at Norah Hotel, Ayede-Ekiti, held between Wednesday November 26, and Thursday , November 27, 2025 was aimed to strengthen alumni leadership and promote institutional advancement.
Newsline NG learnt the theme of the maiden retreat “Strengthening Alumni Leadership for Institutional Advancement, was graced by seasoned facilitators within and outside the university, past leaders, and university administrators equipped with the executives with essential skills for effective governance.
In his opening remarks, the Global President of the Alumni Association, Federal University Oye-Ekiti, Nigeria, Bishop Temitope Arogundade, welcomed participants and underscored the importance of knowledge-driven leadership.
According to him, “The essence of today’s gathering is clear, we must do everything within our capacity to fight against ignorance. Information is power, both physically and spiritually. This programme is intended to give us a deeper understanding of the responsibilities before us.” he said
Bishop Arogundade urged the new executives to elevate the association beyond its current stature, expressing confidence in their capacity to drive progress. He also commended the organizing committee, led by Mr. Abiona Sekoni and Mrs. Kayode Omowunmi, for their dedication to ensuring a successful event.
The retreat featured a robust lineup of presentations. Dr. Adetunberu Oludotun, former Global President of EKSU alumni, and Director General of the Homeland Intelligence Agency, Ekiti State, delivered a paper titled “The Role of Alumni in University Advancement and Global Competitiveness (Understanding the Structure, Functions, and Ethics of Alumni Associations).” He highlighted vigilance, ethics, and strong organizational structures as pillars of a progressive alumni body.
Representing Prof. Adebola Aderibigbe, A Professor of Mass Communication and Director of Carrier Services, Federal University Oye-Ekiti, Mr. Emmanuel Adohoje, Council Affairs Officer of the Ivory Tower, delivered two practical amd engaging strategic papers: “Leadership Excellence for Alumni Executives: Effective Communication and Alumni Engagement Strategies” and “Conflict Management, Decision-Making, and Consensus Building.”
He stressed transparent governance and long-term planning as vital for FUOYE’s development.
Also, Bishop Arogundade also shared insights from his tenure in a technical session titled “The University Model—Building Mutually Beneficial Partnerships: My Experience,” encouraging collaboration that enhances both alumni and institutional growth.
Prof. Olubukola Oyawoye, former Acting Vice-Chancellor of Adeleke University, Ede, Osun State and former Osun State Commissioner, delivered a comprehensive paper on Fundraising, Endowments, and Partnerships for Alumni Projects.
Prof. Oyawoye highlighted innovative models for resource mobilization, sustainable donor engagement, and collaborative strategies aimed at strengthening the association’s capacity to implement meaningful developmental initiatives.
As part of strategic engagements, the new executives led by Bishop Arogundade embarked on courtesy visits to key offices within FUOYE. At the Medical Director’s office, Dr Adesina lauded the team’s commitment and urged a strong campaign against substance abuse among students, pledging her support for future initiatives.
During a visit to the university management, Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Tajudeen Opoola described alumni as “the backbone of any institution” and assured the executives of management’s support.
The Registrar of the institution , Mr. Muftau Ibrahim welcomed the delegation and encouraged them to sustain the legacy of the previous administration.
The executive also visited the Director of the Advancement Centre, Prof. Olubukola Oyawoye, during the meeting , she urged the executives to elevate the association’s relevance and pledged the Centre’s support for initiatives projecting the university positively.
Participants described the retreat as timely, impactful, and a strong foundation for a more vibrant and results-oriented administration. With renewed partnerships and strengthened leadership capacity, the FUOYE Alumni Association begins its new tenure committed to institutional advancement and sustainable alumni engagement.
