Police Officer stabbed to death in Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed that a police officer was attacked and stabbed along the Arakale axis of Akure on Tuesday morning, contrary to widespread speculations of a fresh assault later in the night.

Clarifying the situation, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Olushola Ayanlade, stated that the incident occurred earlier in the day and not during the evening as rumoured across the city and social media platforms.

According to Ayanlade, the officer was attacked by a suspect who has since been arrested, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other accomplices linked to the violent act.

“There was no police officer attacked or stabbed tonight. The officer was attacked in the morning, stabbed, and the suspect was immediately arrested. Efforts are on to arrest his accomplices,” the police spokesperson confirmed.

He further explained that the noticeable police presence and movement around the Arakale axis at night was part of a follow-up operation aimed at tracking down other suspects connected to the attack, stressing that the situation was under full control.

Residents had earlier expressed panic following reports of unrest in the area, but the police command reassured the public that no further incidents occurred during the night and urged citizens to remain calm while investigations continue.
