The Senior Pastor of Global Harvest Church, Ibadan, Rev. Victor Adeyemi, has called on citizens, especially Christians to actively participate in the upcoming elections, emphasising the importance of their involvement in shaping the nation’s future.
Adeyemi, the convener of “Celebrate Jesus 8.0” Christian event, made the remark on Tuesday, during a news conference to mark the Celebrate Jesus programme on Friday in Ibadan.
Adeyemi emphasised that all citizens should realise that power was in their hands to determine who would lead in all spheres of the country.
He urged Nigerians to join political parties at their different wards, register and ensure they go out to cast their votes during the elections.
“Let’s look at the track records of those we want to vote before making our decisions,” he said.
He also called on the government to ensure all citizens were safe and secured in any area of the country.
Adeyemi also called for social intervention programmes where the aged, people with disabilities and special needs would be catered for.
According to him, there is need for more job creations and infrastructural developments to better the lots of people and improve economy.
“Let there be salary reviews for those on the lower cadre, the tax reforms say that anybody who earns N800,000 or below per annum will not pay tax.
“The government can increase it a little bit and make sure that the downtrodden ones don’t pay tax.
“Let those who have the excess be the ones to pay more so that the money can also be moved to the downtrodden, we need more balancing of our wealth so that it can go round,” he said.
Adeyemi remarked that the “Celebrate Jesus 8.0” programme was born out of the desire to win more souls to God.
“We believe that at the programme on Friday, thousands of people, especially young ones will turn to Christ and ultimately make the nation better.
“It will also bring light and joy to the city, love, salvation and hope that the nation will be better especially as the elections draw near.
“The activities include soul lifting, gospel musics, healings, miracles, lots more and especially prayers for effective leaders that will lead Nigeria to the promise land,” he said.
Adeyemi assured that there would be adequate security and medical personnel to attend to the expected crowd at the event.
“As usual, the police, civil defence and other security operators will be on ground to ensure a hitch free experience.
“Also, we have the medical unit drawn from different churches, to ensure adequate provision of first aid, ambulance; so everyone who is coming will be safe and secured.
“There will also be free buses located at strategic places to convey people to Liberty stadium Ibadan, the venue for the programme which will start 7.00 p.m. till dawn,” Adeyemi said. (NAN)
