The National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANNM) Oyo State Council has rejected the 7.5 per cent health insurance deduction from nurses and midwives’ salaries.
The association made this known on Tuesday in a statement signed by the Oyo State NANNM Chairman, Comrade Victor Adeleke and Secretary, Comrade Emmanuel Aina, in Ibadan.
The association cited the current economic hardships faced by its members.
NANNM argued that the deduction was ill-timed and would worsen the financial burden on workers.
According to the statement, the association’s position is that the Oyo State Health Insurance Scheme should maintain the previously deducted amount without any increase.
“While commending Gov. Seyi Makinde for prompt payment of salaries and infrastructural development, NANNM appealed to the Governor to be mindful of any agency that intends to impose a heavy burden on workers in Oyo State.
“The association emphasises the need for the government to consider the welfare of its employees, particularly during challenging economic times,” they stated. (NAN)
