Newborn Baby Found in Shop

 


A newborn baby was found alive in a bag at a shop along Pope John Paul Seminary School Street, Umuodu Village, Okpuno, Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State

The baby was discovered at about 9 am on Sunday by a nurse, Mercy Iloanya, who had gone to her nearby shop.

According to Iloanya, she heard the baby crying from the bag and alerted a passerby, who confirmed the baby was alive. They then informed the owner of the shop where the baby was found.

"A written note accompanied the baby, appealing to the shop owner to help care for the child. 

Good Samaritans at the scene contributed baby items, while onlookers expressed shock and concern over the incident.

The baby was taken to Anambra Police B Division, where a report was made, and then transferred to the Intensive Care Unit at the Mother and Child Department of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka, on the directive of Anambra State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Ify Obinabo.
