The contest for the Akure North/Akure South Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives has attracted a new aspirant as legal practitioner, Olu Akinola, FCTI, formally declared his intention to join the race.
Akinola, who currently serves as a Commissioner at the Tax Appeal Tribunal of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, made his ambition known during a reception organised in his honour by the Elders’ Forum of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.
His declaration followed a series of consultations with key political stakeholders, including a recent courtesy visit to Mr. Kenneth Olawale, the first Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly who served between 1999 and 2003.
Speaking before party leaders and supporters at the gathering, Akinola described himself as a loyal and committed member of the APC, noting that his aspiration is motivated by the need to ensure effective and fair representation for the people of the constituency.
According to him, the constituency requires capable leadership that understands the needs of the people and can drive meaningful development.
He maintained that it was time to place “a round peg in a round hole” in order to properly address the developmental challenges facing the federal constituency.
Akinola also appealed to the party leadership to consider fairness and equity in the choice of its candidate, stressing that Akure North had yet to produce a representative for the constituency since the return to democratic rule in 1999.
“I know where the shoe pinches our people who have long yearned for quality representation, and I am ready to serve as a strong voice for their welfare and development,” he said.
The legal practitioner further highlighted his political and professional experience, noting that he had been an active member of the APC since its formation in 2013/2014 and also contested the Akure North State Constituency seat in the 2015 general elections.
He added that his more than two decades of experience in legal practice, alongside business interests in the oil and gas and real estate sectors, have equipped him with the knowledge and competence required for effective legislative duties.
Party leaders present at the event expressed strong support for his aspiration, describing him as highly qualified and capable of bringing fresh ideas to the constituency.
They also encouraged him to continue consultations with party leaders across Akure North and Akure South Local Government Areas, commending his loyalty, consistency and unwavering support for the APC over the years.
