A 54-year-old woman, Mrs. Caroline Agoi, has allegedly been beaten to death by her neighbour, identified as Alhaji Abdullahi Kasim Ayodele, a retired school vice principal, following a dispute over a nylon bag in Owo, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
The tragic incident reportedly occurred along Uselu–Isuada Road, close to a transformer in the community.
Sources told Weekend Hope that the quarrel started after a nylon bag was blown by the wind into the suspect’s compound. The retired vice principal allegedly accused the deceased of throwing the nylon into his premises, a claim she reportedly denied.
The disagreement soon escalated into a heated argument between the neighbours across their fence.
Eyewitnesses said the suspect, accompanied by his son, later left his compound in anger and went to the residence of the deceased to confront her.
According to sources within the community, Abdullahi allegedly picked up a bench in front of the woman’s house and, with the assistance of his son, attacked her with it.
The victim reportedly collapsed during the assault, with foam coming out of her mouth. She was later confirmed dead.
A source in the neighbourhood disclosed that the deceased was speaking with her husband on the phone when the suspect allegedly stormed her compound and struck her with the bench.
“The quarrel started because Alhaji accused the woman of throwing the nylon into his compound. The wind had blown it there, but he insisted it belonged to her.
She was speaking with her husband on the phone when he angrily entered the compound and attacked her with a bench,” the source said.
It was also gathered that the deceased’s husband, who works as a driver to the Olori of the Olowo of Owo, reportedly fainted in shock after returning home and learning about the tragic incident. He was later rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Owo, for medical attention.
Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been deposited in a mortuary as residents of the area expressed shock and outrage over the unfortunate development.
Confirming the incident, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, ACP Jimoh Ayobami, said the suspect is currently in police custody while investigations are ongoing.
