The Executive Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has charged corps members to embrace purposeful service as the National Youth Service Corps held the swearing-in ceremony for the 2026 Batch 'A' Stream II at the Permanent Orientation Camp in Ikare-Akoko.
The Governor, who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Omoyofunmi Segun Henry, described the service year as a defining phase that requires commitment, discipline and a strong sense of duty. He noted that the NYSC remains a vital platform for promoting national unity and meaningful development.
He urged the corps members to make positive impact in their host communities by understanding local needs and contributing practical solutions that will create lasting value.
The Governor assured them of their safety, stating that Ondo State remains peaceful through effective collaboration with security agencies. He also encouraged them to take the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme seriously in order to acquire practical skills for self reliance.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the state government to corps members’ welfare and highlighted ongoing efforts to improve camp infrastructure including the construction of a 216 bed hostel to enhance accommodation.
In a welcome address delivered on behalf of the Chairman of the NYSC Ondo State Governing Board by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Mr. Lanre Abiodun, the corps members were commended for their discipline and conduct since arrival at camp. They were encouraged to sustain the tempo throughout the orientation course.
The Board assured the corps members of continued support for their welfare and safety while appreciating camp officials for their dedication to the smooth organization of the programme.
Earlier in her introductory remarks, the State Coordinator, Mrs. Kuburat Omowumi Bakare, welcomed dignitaries and participants and appreciated the state government for its consistent support for the scheme.
She noted that the orientation course commenced on Wednesday, 22nd April, 2026, with the safe arrival of corps members and officials, while the swearing-in ceremony marks the formal induction into national service.
Mrs. Bakare urged the corps members to participate fully in all camp activities, comply with regulations and conduct themselves responsibly at all times. She also appealed to employers and host communities to provide a conducive environment for corps members posted to their establishments.
She commended efforts to improve camp facilities and appreciated stakeholders including SUNBETH GLOBAL CONCEPTS LIMITED for the construction of a solar powered mini water station which has improved water supply for corps members.
The ceremony was attended by government functionaries, members of the judiciary, security agencies and other stakeholders who reaffirmed their support for the objectives of the NYSC scheme.
