The management of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, has assured students that the ongoing industrial action by the institution’s Academic Staff Union of Universities is receiving the attention of the state government and would soon be resolved.
The university also urged students to remain calm and avoid making public statements on issues affecting the institution without first seeking clarification from the management.
The assurance followed a reported 72-hour ultimatum allegedly issued by the Students’ Union to the Ondo State Government, demanding an end to the strike embarked upon by the academic staff.
In a statement signed by the Deputy Registrar, Information, Protocol and Public Relations, Mr Sola Imoru, the management said the state government had already approved measures to address the situation through a special intervention fund.
“Management considers the ultimatum unnecessary as the Governor of Ondo State and Visitor to the University, Dr Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has already approved a special intervention fund to enable the university meet its financial obligations. This development was duly discussed with the leadership of the Students’ Union,” the statement read.
The management appealed to students to remain patient, saying the process of releasing the intervention fund was already underway and would facilitate the settlement of the institution’s financial obligations.
“Management, therefore, appeals to all students to remain calm and exercise patience while the payment processes initiated by the Visitor to the University are being concluded,” the statement added.
The university further advised the Students’ Union leadership to always seek clarification on issues affecting the institution before making public pronouncements, stressing that dialogue remained the best approach to resolving matters of mutual concern.
“Management remains committed to constructive engagement and believes dialogue is the most effective approach to resolving issues of mutual concern. Adekunle Ajasin University remains steadfast in its commitment to the principles of good university governance, transparency and sustained engagement with all stakeholders,” the statement added.
