The Benue State Police Command has arrested a man, Terfa Nyikwagh, for allegedly killing his father with an axe following a family dispute in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of the state.
The incident reportedly occurred on July 24 and was later reported to the police by the traditional ruler of the community.
According to security sources, the altercation stemmed from disagreements over the death of the suspect's brother, Ternenge Uwuh. The disagreement between Terfa and his father, Nyikwagh Abor, reportedly escalated into violence.
During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly attacked his father with an axe, inflicting fatal injuries. The victim was confirmed dead shortly after the incident.
Following the report, the Divisional Police Officer in Katsina-Ala mobilised officers to the scene, where the suspect was arrested without resistance.
The body of the deceased was evacuated and deposited at the Gondozua Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
Police sources disclosed that the suspect remains in custody while detectives continue investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The command added that the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations and after appropriate legal advice.
