The Jigawa State Police Command has launched an investigation into the death of a 60-year-old man who reportedly collapsed in a hotel in Dutse shortly after checking in with a 20-year-old woman.
The incident, which occurred at a hotel in the Jigawa State capital, was confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam.
According to the police, the man and the young woman had checked into the hotel before the deceased requested a meal. Shortly afterwards, he reportedly developed a medical emergency and began gasping for breath.
Following a distress call, officers from the Yalwawa Police Division swiftly responded and rushed him to the General Hospital in Dutse. However, medical personnel confirmed him dead on arrival.
During a visit to the hotel room as part of the investigation, detectives recovered food items, assorted drinks, a suspected sexual enhancement substance and other personal belongings belonging to the deceased.
The police spokesperson disclosed that the man's body was later released to his family for burial upon their request.
He added that the 20-year-old woman who was with the deceased at the time of the incident is cooperating with investigators and has provided useful information to aid the ongoing inquiry.
The Jigawa State Police Command appealed to members of the public to avoid spreading rumours or unverified claims regarding the incident, assuring residents that a thorough and impartial investigation is underway to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the man's death.
