The Ondo State Internal Revenue Service (ODIRS) has encouraged young Nigerians to actively support and understand the 2025 tax reforms, describing the policy as a crucial step towards improving tax compliance, stimulating economic growth and fostering national development.
The Executive Chairman of ODIRS, Mr. Bayo Rojugbokan, made the call during the 4th Annual Lecture, Dinner and Award Night organised by the Elizade University Tax Club at the Revenue House in Akure.
Delivering his address on the theme, "2025 Tax Reforms and Their Implications for the Younger Generation," Rojugbokan said the reforms were designed to modernise tax administration while encouraging voluntary compliance, particularly among the nation's youth.
He noted that taxation remains one of the most effective tools for driving economic development, promoting transparency and ensuring government accountability.
According to him, the ongoing reforms have strengthened Nigeria's tax administration through improved assessment processes, increased compliance and enhanced revenue generation.
The ODIRS chairman also urged students to explore careers in taxation, describing the profession as a rewarding avenue for contributing to public policy formulation and sustainable national development.
He commended the Coordinator and Staff Adviser of the Elizade University Tax Club, Dr. Ifeoluwa Kosemani, for her dedication to mentoring students and promoting practical tax education through the club's programmes.
The keynote lecture was delivered by the Chairman of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), Akure and District Society, Mr. Richard Olurankinse. He provided insights into the implementation framework of the 2025 tax reforms and highlighted their expected impact on tax administration across the country.
Olurankinse expressed confidence that the successful implementation of the reforms would strengthen tax awareness, encourage voluntary compliance and increase revenue generation in Ondo State and Nigeria at large.
Earlier, Dr. Kosemani appreciated ODIRS for hosting the annual lecture for the fourth consecutive year. She said the university's Tax Club had continued to partner with relevant stakeholders in promoting tax education and encouraging voluntary tax compliance among students and young Nigerians.
The event also featured the presentation of awards to individuals recognised for their outstanding contributions to tax education, public service and youth development. It attracted dignitaries from ODIRS, the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria and Elizade University
