The Nigerian Law School has confirmed the death of a 23-year-old student, Faith Alayande, following a fall from the rooftop of a hostel at its Lagos Campus.
Alayande, a student of the Nigerian Law School, Enugu Campus, was temporarily accommodated at the Lagos Campus while participating in an externship programme in Lagos.
The institution confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Monday and signed by its Secretary to the Council and Director of Administration, Aderonke O. Osho.
According to the statement, the incident occurred at about 4:00am on Friday, August 7, 2026, when the student reportedly fell from the rooftop of the campus hostel.
The Law School said Alayande unfortunately died from injuries sustained in the incident.
“Preliminary information indicates that, at about 4:00am on Friday, 7 August 2026, the student fell from the rooftop of the hostel at the Campus and, sadly, succumbed to the incident,” the institution stated.
The management said it was working with the appropriate authorities and the deceased’s family to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure that all necessary procedures were followed.
The Lagos State Police Command had earlier confirmed the death, explaining that the hostel matron reported the incident after the student was found unresponsive on the premises.
Police operatives reportedly visited the scene and evacuated the deceased’s body to a morgue, while investigations into the circumstances surrounding her death continued.
Reports had also indicated that a hostel mate and a relative allegedly discovered a suicide note and subsequently began searching for Alayande before she was found unresponsive after the fall.
However, the Nigerian Law School did not disclose details concerning the circumstances that preceded the incident.
The institution expressed sadness over the death and sympathised with Alayande’s family, colleagues and others affected by the tragedy.
The management also appealed to members of the public and the media to respect the family’s request for privacy as they mourn their loss.
It urged everyone to honour the wishes of the bereaved family and refrain from actions that could further deepen their grief.
The Nigerian Law School further reaffirmed its commitment to the safety, welfare and overall wellbeing of its students and staff.
