Preparations for the 2026 Igogo-Ekiti Day celebrations have entered the final stage, with various subcommittees concluding their plans for a hitch-free and memorable celebration.
Sequel to the weekend review of activities so far put in place by the different subcommittees, the Chairman of the Organising Committee, Dr Williams Mobolaji Afolabi expressed satisfaction with the level of readiness for the annual event, saying the commitment of stakeholders had raised hopes of a successful outing.
The Chairman, who commended members for their efforts, urged them to sustain the momentum and ensure that all arrangements are concluded on schedule.
He also called on sons and daughters of Igogo-Ekiti, as well as visitors expected at the celebration, to cooperate with the organisers and observe all guidelines designed to ensure order, decorum and respect for the traditional institution.
The organisers specifically warned individuals, groups and associations against displaying any form of cultural or social obscenity, including display of masquerade during the celebration. They enjoined participants to conduct themselves in a manner that would uphold the dignity and cultural values of Igogo-Ekiti.
In another directive, the committee said no group or association would be allowed to dance into the venue after the Onigogo of Igogo and his Council members have taken seat, warning that participating groups should properly coordinate their activities and comply strictly with the approved programme and protocol to accord the event with desired curtesies.
The committee also appealed to both subjects and visitors to be seated, latest by 8 30 am, before the arrival of the Onigogo-in-Council, stressing that punctuality and respect for royal protocol are essential to smooth and dignified celebrations.
Furthermore, the committee emphased that earlier directives against night events are still in force in order to avoid running foul of security breaches that may mar the event, citing the protracted skirmishes across the country, occasioned by banditry and kidnapping.
With preparations now reaching their final stage, the organisers expressed optimism that the 2026 Igogo-Ekiti Day would not only be successful but also provide opportunity for indigenes, residents and visitors to celebrate the community's rich cultural heritage, strengthen unity among the populace and promote her continued development
