Breakup: Man Kills Ex-Girlfriend

A young woman, identified as Umuora Mmesoma, has reportedly been murdered in Uga, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, following the alleged breakdown of her relationship with her boyfriend.

Mmesoma was said to have gone missing on Friday, October 16, 2026, before her body was later reportedly discovered, sparking outrage and renewed concerns over violence against women and the dangers of abusive and possessive relationships.

The alleged perpetrator, identified as Chima, reportedly confessed to the killing in a video circulating on social media, claiming that he attacked Mmesoma because she had ended their relationship.

In the video, the suspect allegedly stated that the incident occurred at his residence in Uga. He was also said to have disclosed that he put the victim’s body in a bag before dumping it at an undisclosed location.

Reports indicated that the suspect had been handed over to the police. However, the Anambra State Police Command had yet to issue an official statement on the incident as of the time of filing this report.

Reacting to the tragedy, Dr Uche Nworah, a former Special Adviser on General Duties to the Director-General of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency, condemned the alleged killing, describing it as heartbreaking and unacceptable.

In a Facebook post on Friday, Nworah stressed that no emotional disagreement or failed relationship could justify taking another person’s life.

He noted that Mmesoma had the right to end a relationship she no longer wished to continue, adding that rejection and heartbreak should never be used as excuses for violence.

Nworah also expressed relief over reports that the suspect had been apprehended, while noting that his arrest could not bring the deceased back to life.
