'Comedians fees not commensurate with their work’

An Akure based Master of Ceremony and Comedian, Onibeju Olanrewaju popularly known as MC Sugar has disclosed that comedy has reshaped his life in all ramification.

The compere who disclosed this while speaking with Friday Extravaganza narrated how it all started.

He explained that he started as an instrumentalist, at Current Star Gospel Band as a drummer and pianist.

MC Sugar who hails from Lagos state said he ventured into comedy when he noticed people laugh whenever he talks and the passion he has for it.

“I noticed people laugh anytime I talk, and I decided to upgrade myself, taking it to another level. My first performance was at a wedding ceremony in Akure in 2014.

“I got inspiration by putting smile on people’s faces, cracking jokes and create an atmosphere of laugher with good sense of humor. My mentor is Seyi Law, I enjoy him whenever he performs.”

MC Sugar, a graduate of Mass Communication from Federal Polytechnic Auchi, Edo State, noted that being an MC is a thing he enjoys and have passion for.

He identified money as the major challenge his facing in actualising his dream of, having a stable radio programme.

“Even though I can perform more than some big name comedians people still pay lesser amount of money, to me than they pay big for a veteran comedian”.

He urged upcoming Comedians to keep doing what they know how to do though they are not getting the money, but one day their pay will come.

“Don’t do your thing like anybody else, always learn how to standout and be unique,” he stated.
