The Ondo State Internal Revenue Service has achieved yet another feat in revenue generation in the state as it generated a sum of 200million naira on Land Use Charge in the year 2020, which was shared between the state and the local government areas.
This was revealed today in Akure during the Land Use Charge Revenue sharing between the state and the LGAs at the Ministry of Finance.
It was the first time such amount of land use charge revenue would be shared between the two tiers of government.
In addition, a total sum of 14.5 million naira was also shared as radio and television licencing revenue.
Both the state and the LGAs had in June this year shared a sum of 100million naira while another 100million naira was shared today, totalling 200million naira.
In his opening speech, the Chairman, ODIRS, Mr Tolu Adegbie disclosed that the agency generated the highest land use charge revenue in the history of Ondo state, describing the feat as unprecedented.
According to him, before the inception of the ODIRS in 2018, the highest land use charge Revenue shared was 20million naira.
He added that the land use charge revenue sharing between the state and the LGAs was done once a year in previous years but despite the Corona virus pandemic, it was shared twice in 2020.
The ODIRS chairman said that the sharing ratio used to be 80:20 but due to the magnanimousness of Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, the ratio was increased to 70:30 in favour of the LGAs.
He revealed that revenue from radio and television licence to be shared was 14.5million naira.
Also speaking, the Ondo state Commissioner for Finance, Mr Wale Akinterinwa lauded the diligence and productivity of the ODIRS since inception, saying despite the pandemic, the agency continued to make wave and surpassed expectations.
The commissioner, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Pastor E.G. Adelayi also saluted Arakunrin Akeredolu for his initiative and concern for the development of LGAs in the state by approving a 50% increase in sharing ratio in favour of the LGAs.
In his comment, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Deaconess Lola Fagbemi, ably represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr Segun Odusanya, commended the transparency and accountability of the ODIRS in collecting, managing and sharing the revenue.
He charged the local government Chairmen to use the money judiciously in developing their respective LGAs
While also appreciating the transparency of the ODIRS, the state Chairman, Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Mr Oloruntogbe Augustine, appreciated Arakunrin Akeredolu and for his giant strides in revenue generation and economic development in Ondo state.
Also present at the event were LGAs chairmen, officials of the ODIRS, pressmen among others.
