The NYSC Ondo State Coordinator, Mrs. Victoria Nnenna Ani has asserted that amalgamation of Northern and Southern protectorates not withstanding, the components making up the country is better appreciated as one indivisible entity.
The State Coordinator made this assertion when she spoke on the Overview of the NYSC to the inducted corps members at the Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare-Akoko.
According to Mrs. Ani, NYSC since its establishment exactly 48 years ago, the Scheme has been doing much to unify all the various ethnic groups and tribes.
"Gentlemen corps members, Nigeria is a beautiful country to live in if you have a positive attitude or outlook. The birth of NYSC is to address the ethnic loyalty, mutual suspicion and distrust which culminated into a civil war so that we can develop our potentials and work on our weaknesses together".
The NYSC Ondo State boss disclosed that the principal purpose of the Scheme is to inculcate in the Nigerian youth the spirit of selfless service to the nation and to emphasise the spirit of oneness and brotherhood of all Nigerians irrespective of cultural, social background and to promote national unity and development.
"The National Youth Service Corps Scheme was established as a deliberate public policy to ensure the realisation of the Reconciliation, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction introduced by the Federal Government under General Yakubu Gowon (rtd) after the civil war under the NYSC Act CAP N84, Laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 2004".
"The Scheme aimed to raise a new crop of disciplined and detribalised Nigerians by allowing the youths to undergo a national service in states other than their own for the purpose of national development and integration".
She informed the members of the service corps that the Scheme came into being with a view to promoting peace and encouraging mutual understanding of common ties among Nigerian youths, thereby fostering national unity.
"You are privileged to become a member of this noble Scheme because Nigeria believes very much in you and you must therefore justify the confidence reposed in you by preaching love, oneness and commit yourself to the core values that will enhance our growth and development as a nation".
"Any nation who does not invest in her youth will continue to grope in the darkness and you need to appreciate the vision of our founding fathers for bequeathing to the younger generations the platform for you to articulate your creativity and ingenuity for the overall benefits of the country".
The State Coordinator encouraged the corps members to participate fully in the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development SAED programme established by the NYSC management to fight the unemployment which corps members face after the service year.
During the flag off of Lecture series, the State Coordinator inaugurated the COVID -19 Enforcement Vanguard and charged them to work assiduously for the promotion of personal hygiene.
"I charge you to deliver on the mandate thrusted upon your shoulders by constantly reminding and encouraging your colleagues and the entire camp community to observe the protocol of COVID -19 so that the war against the virus would be over soon than anticipated".
The mood of the nation reflected the in the lecture as the State Coordinator led the camp officials and the corps members to observe a minute silence for the departed Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt Gen Ibrahim Attahiru and all those who lost their lives in the military Beachcraft 350 plane crash that occurred Friday evening.
Mrs. Ani while praying for the souls of the departed and fortitude by their respective families to bear the pains if the irreparable loss, requested that God should grant absolute peace from above on the nation, Nigeria.
