A former Chief Medical Director of the Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido Ekiti (FETHI), and Yeye Oba of Igogo Ekiti - headquarters of Ero Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Dr Mrs Ololade Olusola Ojo, has increased the number of beneficianes of her bursary scheme for orphans in Igogo Ekiti, in a renewed effort to support their educational pursuits and ease the financial burden on their foster parents and guardians.
The gesture, according to her, was motivated by her concern over the growing number of orphans whose education is threatened by the difficult economic circumstances of those caring for them.
Under the latest arrangement, four Igogo Ekiti orphan students of Igogo Commercial High School will each receive N100,000, while another four orphan students of Ifelodun Comprehensive High School, will also recerve N100,000 each.
At the primary school level, three orphan pupils from each of the four public primary schools in Igogo Ekiti will benefit from N25,000 each, shifting the award baseline from N.8m to N1.1m, thereby extending the educational intervention to a larger number of deserving children across the community.
Dr Mrs Ojo, who is the wife of the Asiwaju of Igogo Ekiti Kingdom, Dr Moses Kolawole Ojo, advised the beneficiaries’ guardians to use the money primarily for educational needs, including school fees, uniforms and instructional materials such as notebooks and textbooks, while any balance should be devoted to the children's upkeep.
She warned the guardians against spending the bursary on frivolities, such as jewelry and clothing, stressing that the funds were specifically provided to promote the educational welfare of the beneficiaries.
While calling on the head teachers and principals of the benefiting students to closely monitor their academic progress and welfare to ensure that the bursary achieves its intended purpose, she urged the school authorities to provide appropriate oversight and ensure that the funds were not misappropriated by guardians, noting that the ultimate objective of the initiative was to give Igogo Ekiti orphans better opportunities to pursue their education and build brighter futures,
Giving kudos to those who supported her vision from planning to execution stage, She called on other well to do individuals to invest into the lives of the needy, saying ‘the greatest gestures with the greater rewards are those things we do for those that could not help themselves”.
