Kolawole Babatunde congratulates Akeredolu over appeal court judgement

The Special Adviser to the Ondo State Governor on Rural and Community Development, Hon. Kolawole Babatunde, has congratulated the Ondo State Governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN, on his victory at the Appeal Court over the appeals emanating from the Elections Petition Tribunal.

The appellate court sitting in Akure today dismissed the petition filed by the candidate of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in the October 2020 Ondo State Gubernatorial election, Eyitayo Jegede challenging the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag bearer, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu.

It will be recalled that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu the winner of the election held on October 10, 2020.

The Ondo State Elections Petition Tribunal had earlier in April dismissed the petition filed by Eyitayo Jegede and his party, the People's Democratic Party (PDP) for want of jurisdiction and lack of merit.

The Chairman of the three-man panel, Justice Umar Abubakar, while delivering his judgement said that the “Issue raised therein in this petition are settled issue of internal affairs and management of a political party which this Tribunal has no jurisdiction.”

Dissatisfied with the decision of the Elections Petition Tribunal, Eyitayo Jegede approached the appellate court seeking to upturn the verdict of the lower Tribunal.

In its ruling today, the five-man panel led by Justice Theresa Ngolika Orji-Abadua unanimously held that the appeal is lacking in merit, having examined the seven grounds of appeal of the appellant and dismissed the appeal accordingly.

Hon. Kolawole Babatunde who ascribed today's Appeal Court victory to God described it as a true reflection of the wishes of the good people of Ondo State.

He enjoined the People's Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate in the last Governorship Elections, Eyitayo Jegede, SAN, to join hands with Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu in moving the State forward.
