The NYSC Oyo State has flagged off a 4-day free Medical Outreach at Jobele town, Afijio Local Government Area. The Health initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD) program involves sensitization on disease prevention and medical care services, diagnosis and treatment of ailments.
The Medical Outreach by Corps Medical Personnel since its inception in 2014 has been aimed at complementing the medical care services offered to the rural communities by the state and local government.
While flagging off the health Programme, the State Coordinator, Mrs Grace Ogbuogebe who was represented by the Asst. Director Corps Welfare and Health, Mr. Adeniyi Ade-Ayeni encouraged the host community to always take care of their health as productivity can only be achieved by a healthy person.
The State Coordinator stressed further that a clean environment drives away sicknesses and diseases. Stating that diseases cohabit with dirty surroundings.
She therefore enjoined the host community to make themselves available for the free medical services so as to benefit from the opportunity presented by the scheme.
The Director- General, Brig. Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim in a goodwill message delivered on his behalf by the State Coordinator, stated that the Health initiative Programme combines carrying out diagnosis, treatment and referrals of patients free of charge.
He said that the programme is basically geared towards enhancing the accessibility of health care to rural dwellers. According to the NYSC Boss, the HIRD Programme right from inception in 2014 has taken the well being of indigent rural residents as a priority.
Representing the Chairman Afijo Local Government at the event, the Head Local Government Administration Alhaja Olatoyosi Salawu lauded the management of NYSC Oyo State for organising the medical outreach at Jobele Community which would leave an indelible mark in the well being of the host community.
She encouraged the community to make themselves available for the program.
Also in his appreciation, the representative of the traditional ruler Baale of Jobele Land Mogaji Joshua Oyeniyi Esuola commended the Scheme for the laudable project. He stated that the program has shown that the relevance of the scheme cannot be overemphasized.
In the expansion of the program , the Corps Medical CDS group also carried out a sensitization programme at the Community Secondary school, Jobele. At the health talk, the Corps medical personnel enlightened the students on dental care, drug abuse and expectations of the puberty age.
On dental care, Corps member Oladeru Dorcas OY/21A/1243 took the students through the benefits of maintaining proper oral hygiene while Vaughan Olayemi (OY/20B/0136) and Olusola Ikeoluwa (OY/21A/0553) enlightened the students on the need to abstain from drug abuse following its devastating consequences and how to maintain healthy menstrual care.
