The NYSC Ondo State Coordinator, Mrs. Victoria Nnenna Ani has asserted that the level of discipline and commitment of camp officials will determine how successful the first cardinal objective of NYSC would be.
The State Coordinator made the assertion when she addressed camp officials which included NYSC staff and personnel of collaborating agencies during the maiden meeting held in preparation for the commencement of 2021 Batch 'B' (Stream 1) orientation course.
Mrs. Ani said that indices of discipline include when an individual abides wholly by a policy statement or refrain from making inflammatory statement which is capable of impacting negatively on the administration of the camp.
"We all know that running the orientation course under this present system requires that every one entering the camp must undergo COVID -19 test before being admitted to participate in any camp activities, and this places more responsibility on us to abide by the directive despite the unpleasant experience associated with the test".
"In recent times, the number of people contracting this dreaded and destructive virus is on the increase as the new Delta variant is found in some states and this calls for more vigilance and strict observance of the protocols to reduce its escalation".
She reminded everyone that working as a team has its advantages and this should be encouraged between officials so that the prospective corps members will have a lot to benefit from them.
"A house divided against itself cannot stand and I want to use the opportunity provided by this maiden meeting to call on everyone to work as a team so that our prospective corps members will have something to benefit from all of us. Let there be no Paul or Apollo but let us allow one love to keep us together".
The Ondo State NYSC boss appealed to everyone to watch out for others and try everything within them to ensure that they are adequately protected.
"We shall not relent to continue to encourage everyone to take their personal security seriously. NYSC has put all drastic measures in place to protect everyone coming for this orientation course, be it camp officials or prospective corps members but we should not toy with our personal security".
"Still on the security matter, we should as parents, brothers and sisters ensure that the prospective corps members put under our care are continuously sensitised and encouraged to be alert to whatever happens in their immediate environment, and report unusual movement and activities around them".
The Coordinator tasked the camp officials to exhibit high sense of responsibility at discharging all assigned duty and warned that anyone caught working contrary to the laid down code of conduct would be made to face the full wrath of the law as prescribed in the relevant sections of the Public Service Rules (PSR) or other specified documents as the case may be.
While wishing everyone the very best as the orientation course commences, she said that the camp administration is open to genuine advise and constructive criticism that will make the course an outstanding improvement over the previous ones.
In his remarks, the Camp Director, Mr. Friday Abiodun Ainakhu enjoined all the camp officials to see themselves as brothers and sisters from the same parents.
He said that concerted effort should be geared towards sustaining the tempo of oneness and brotherhood as what transpired during the last camp clearly showed that the synergy among camp officials irrespective of their organisation was second to none.
Mr. Ainakhu promised to treat all matters brought to his notice without fear of favour, and with dispatch but pleaded for understanding if the pendulum does not swing to one's side.
