Agriculture, the solution to unemployment- Ondo Monarch

The Alafin of Afin-Akoko in Ondo State, Oba Abdulraheem Mustapha Adejoro has revealed that the only panacea to solving unemployment, youth restiveness, and economic downturn is intensive Agriculture.

The traditional ruler stated this on Monday while addressing youths and stakeholders in Afin, Akoko North West Local Area of the state.

The Monarch noted that the youths constituted more than half of the Nigerian population and they were currently largely unemployed and unproductive.


Oba Adejoro decried the alarming rate at which youths are involving in heinous crimes under the guise of  unemployment, adding that there are many fertile lands in the agrarian milieu for them to use in engaging themselves in agriculture, which will in turn guarantee economic development.


On how to encourage youths to take up agricultural jobs, Oba Adejoro said that the sector had gone beyond the days of hoes and cutlasses.

Also speaking at the town hall meeting, the Chairman of Afin Development Union(ADU) Chief Demola Ijabiyi, commended the monarch for his pragmatic approach towards the development of the community, especially youth.

Ijabiyi urged youths to embrace shop Windows opportunities provided by the government to be creative and self employed, instead of looking for white collar jobs.
