Oyo: Eradicate poverty through Agriculture - IITA Researcher tells corps members


Corps members have been tasked to contribute to  eradicating poverty through agriculture with the use of technology.

This charge was given by the representative of IITA Mr John Obaniyi, at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp,Iseyin.

Sensitizing the 2021 Batch 'B' Stream two corps members on the topic "Agribusiness opportunities along Agricultural value Chain ", the Reseacher touched on various aspects of agriculture wherein technology can be deployed.

Mr John stated that the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture ( IITA) is a non profit Institution that generates Agricultural innovations to meet the pressing challenges of hunger, poverty, malnutrition and natural resources degradations.

He therefore encouraged the corps members to key into Agriculture and build their wealth as an Agripreneure. 

He also stressed that through Agriculture corps members can improve their livelihood and that of their host Communities, by enhancing food Security, create employment ( self employed) , preserve natural resources and integrity.


Mr John Obaniyi  further said that the partnership of IITA and National Youth Service Corps allows corps members to be trained on how to enhance nutritional quality of food products along the crop value chain which helps at reducing occupational and health hazards.

He however urged the corps members to use the opportunity of their service year to discover the fortune in Agriculture, which will in turn enable them to add value to their lives and that of their host Communities.
