The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps, Brig.Gen Shuaibu Ibrahim, has urged corps members to focus on ensuring that Nigeria remains United.
Shuaibu made this call in his address delivered on his behalf by the State Coordinator,NYSC Oyo,Mrs.Grace Ogbuogebe at the closing ceremony of the 2021 Batch 'B' Stream two Orientation Course.
The DG commended the corps members for their demonstration of patriotism, zeal and high level of discipline which contributed to the success of the orientation exercise.
He enjoined the corps members to accept their posting in good faith and perform their duties diligently.
Gen Shuaibu urged them to appreciate and respect the culture of their host Communities, emphasising the need for them to add value to their various communities by undertaking personal and group Community Development Service projects that will uplift their living standard.
The Director General equally advised corps members to pay special attention to the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development ( SAED), Programme stressing that it is the only antidote to the high rate of unemployment among youths as it ensures that the youths become self reliant, job creators rather than job seekers.
He reiterated his warning against unauthorized journeys and night trips adding that it's now mandatory for all corps members in transit to always cut short their trips from six o'clock in the evening and pass the night at military barracks and other locations officially designated as safe.
While charging corps members to continually be on guard and adhere strictly to all the covid-19 safety protocols in their various places of primary assignment,the DG implored them to further sensitize members of their host Communities about preventive measures, including the need to get vaccinated.
Brig. Gen Shuaibu however strongly warned corps members to shun drug abuse, trafficking, cybercrime and other vices.
He made it clear that anyone found engaging in such would be handed over to the security agency for prosecution.
