Ondo State Coordinator debriefs corps members, harps on unity, integration

The NYSC Ondo State Coordinator, Mrs. Victoria Nnenna Ani has appealed to corps members to ensure that they do everything humanly possible to allow Nigeria to stand and remain one indivisible entity.

The State Coordinator made the appeal when she debriefed the 2021 Batch 'C' (Stream 1) corps members at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Ikare-Akoko ahead of the closing ceremony.

Mrs. Ani while addressing the members of the service corps said that the main objective of the National Youth Service Corps is to promote unity and integration, and this is being achieved through the mobilisation and subsequent deployment of graduate youths to states other than their own.

"My dear children and treasured citizens of Federal Republic of Nigeria, NYSC has remained a beacon and a pivot on which the unity of this great country rests and I want to let you know that you have an indispensable role to play in building a progressive and virile nation".

She enjoined the corps members to make their invaluable services and contributions available to their host communities and their places of primary assignment in order to justify the huge investment the nation invested in them.

The NYSC boss in the Sunshine State told the corps participants to take their personal security seriously in the entirely new environment they are going to live in the next twelve months.

"We have been hammering it to your hearing repeatedly that no one can protect you adequately except yourselves and I want to reiterate it that you take advantage of the information contained in the orientation service guide to safeguard yourselves from any untoward occurrence".

"You should also avail yourselves the contact numbers of security personnel in your various Local Government of posting as contained in the guide and report promptly any strange infraction that you notice".

"Study the culture and ways of living of people in your host communities and refrain from joining the local politics as this may be your greatest undoing. As corps members, you should be apolitical".

She advised them to break their journeys if they are travelling long distances and ensure they pass the night at NYSC Corps Lodges, military formations or Police Stations and warned them against standing on the highways to board vehicles.

"The times are hard and don't make yourselves an easy target for people with criminal tendencies who are wolves in sheep's clothing. We value you and we want you to stay alive, so abide by all the advice throughout and beyond the service year" she said.

"While I am appreciating you all for being determined, disciplined, selfless, supportive and committed, I wish you a successful service year and I hope to meet you at your various places of primary assignment" she concluded.
