The Nigeria Union of Teachers have been charged to restore the lost glory of education by inputing good moral in the upbringing of pupils.
The Ondo State Commissioner for Economic Planning and Budget, Pastor Emmanuel Igbasan gave the charge on Thursday while playing host to the executive members of Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in Irele Local Government Area who paid him a courtesy visit.
Igbasan maintained that the good and solid foundation given at tender age by teachers was responsible for the success of every great and successful man in the society.
"You will need to discuss how to correct the moral errors we are witnessing today. Unless, we want to deceive ourselves, the moral fabric of the society has been compromised.
"It is evident in the way our youths go after wealth and money. In those days, we used to have poems and wise sayings which taught good behaviour and warned us against immoral and despicable acts.
"We memorised such and they guided us on how we conducted ourselves everywhere."
The Commissioner implored them to seek a way to organise programs, where success stories of men and women, who rose from rags to riches can be highlighted and recognised. According to him, such programs will serve as inspiration to the young ones.
He thanked them for supporting Governor Akeredolu in the last gubernatorial elections by voting for the APC, adding that the number of votes recorded by the Governor was unprecedented in the state.
Earlier, Comrades Akinrele, Olabokunde and Mrs. Oyekanmi had appealed for posting of teachers to the local government, saying most schools had no teachers.
He however noted the Nigeria Union of Teachers in Irele local government need a vehicle to facilitate the transportation of its Excos to meetings outside the council.
