Why we enforce consumption tax on hotels, Event Centres ---ODIRS



The Ondo State Internal Revenue Service has embarked on the enforcement of consumption tax on hotels and event centres in the state.

A total of five hotels across the state capital were sealed during the exercise.

Speaking with Journalists, the leader of the enforcement team and Assistant Director, Legal Department, Barrister Bayo Ogunduyi, explained that the hotels and event Centers sealed have failed to comply in the remittance of the consumption tax after various attempt to enable them paid failed.

Ogunduyi stressed that the agency received court order before sealing properties.

He said the enforcement is the first in year 2022.

Also speaking, the Head of Hotel Consumption Tax Department, Miss Pamela Olugbemigun, stated that the sealed hotels have failed to comply despite holding various meetings with the erring hotels, served best of judgement form( BOJ) and also notice of Compliance but they still refused to pay.

He further explained that the agency is acting based on the dictate of the law and the actions is not to witch hunt anyone.

Pamela admonished hoteliers, restaurants and club owners to pay their charges to avoid sealing off their properties.
