The Executive Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu (SAN) has charged corps members to remain committed to the project called Nigeria.
Governor Akeredolu made the charge today while drawing the curtains on the 2021 Batch 'A' (Stream II) service year.
Speaking at the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park, Akure through the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Otunba Bamidele Ologun, the Governor admonished the outgoing corps members to go into the larger society with a mindset to contribute meaningfully to the rebuilding of the moral values that stood the country out at post independence.
"Every citizen of this great country that has the rare privilege to be called upon to serve the nation in diverse and various ways should be positive minded and think of what he or she can do for the country and not the other way round".
"NYSC was established almost forty nine (49) years ago to place responsibilities on the shoulders of our teeming graduate youths so that they can brainstorm and fashion out the best way to make the country remain indivisible entity and promote national unity and integration" he said.
He expressed his profound appreciation to the passing out corps members for putting aside tribe, religious affiliations and other personal considerations to accept the clarion call to serve the nation via Ondo State.
"My dear compatriots, the experience you had during this period of your mandatory one year national service must have confirmed at first hand the generosity and hospitality of the Government and the good people of Ondo State. We acknowledge and appreciate your selfless services towards this government's efforts at building a virile society".
Earlier in her welcome address, the NYSC Ondo State Coordinator, Mrs. Victoria Nnenna Ani saluted the resilience and doggedness of the corps members which made them the best among the equals.
"Your selfless service is the reason why we are celebrating you today and I am confident that all lessons learnt in the course of the service will come handy to propel you to greater heights".
Mrs. Ani asserted that the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme they have been exposed to during the orientation course as well as post-camp training they greatly invested their time and resources in will no doubt make them potential entrepreneurs and fledging industrialists.
The State Coordinator who was represented by the Assistant Director/Head, Corps Discipline and Reward, Mrs. Adejoke Ayodele Fashola reminded them that the road to greatness is full of challenges and those who dare to be different will definitely surmount whatever life placed before them.
"You need to be inspired by the various motivational speakers and life coaches who may seem like they have always had it all, but who have struggled to succeed and they are where they are today. If you want to conquer, do not sit at home and think about it. Go out and get busy" she counselled.
"As you determine and dare to be different, you will gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience you encounter. You will be able to say to yourself that I have lived through this horror called challenges and I can take the next step that comes along".
During the service year, three corps members out of 1260 that passed out who distinguished themselves extra-ordinarily were rewarded with State Honours Award while three others got NYSC Chairman's Governing Board Commendation Certificate for their excellent sacrifices.
However, thirteen (13) corps members would have their service extended for various misdemeanors while fourteen (14) members who absconded from service would have to repeat the service subject to the approval of Directorate Headquarters, Abuja.
One of the highpoints of the colourful event was the recognition of corps member Ajayi Olanrewaju who was honoured as Omoluka of Upenmen by HRM Oba Ebenezer Adewunmi, the Olupenmen of Upenmen Kingdom in Owo Local Government
