It was a palpable tension at Kajola Community in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State yesterday, as youths in their hundreds mobilized to burn the police station in the area over police recklessness, leading to the death of three persons, including a community chief (Baale).
The angry mob, amongst other grievances against the police, thronged the Police Divisional Headquarters in Kajola, throwing stones and other objects to protest the killing of their indigenes at the police checkpoints in the area, along Lagos/Benin Expressways on Saturday evening.
They reportedly dumped the three corpses at the Police Divisional Headquarters, Kajola, chanting series of protest songs to register their grievances and declared that they do not want to see police in the community again.
The victims, David Olowofeyekun, Gbenga Abayomi and Kola Akinduro, who was the Head of Korede Village, were on a motorcycle and heading home from their farms.
However, an eyewitness, who spoke with our correspondent at the scene said the accident occured when a policeman stopped the deceased persons who where on a motorbike at the checkpoint.

Speaking with The Hope Metro, the Chairman, Odigbo Local Government, Mrs Margaret Akinsuruju while speaking on the incident said immediately she heard about the incident, she mobilized security agencies to the scene of the incident to maintain peace and other
However, the Police spokesperson, Funmi Odunlami, while confirming the incident said it was an accident. She said deceased were on a motorcycle riding through one-way while the bike did not have headlight.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Oyediran Oyeyemi in his visit to the scene of the incident admonished the angry mob to maintain peace among themselves.
