Human well being is sacrosanct to Nysc -- State Coordinator

The Ondo State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps, Mrs. Victoria Nnenna Ani has asserted that human lives are precious to the Scheme and the management will continue to strengthen programmes that will make people live healthily.

The State Coordinator made the assertion when she flagged off the 2022 first quarter edition of NYSC National Environmental Sanitation exercise at Moshood Abiola Democracy Park, Oja-Oba, Akure, the Ondo State capital.

Mrs. Ani who believed that a clean environment will promote positive thinking which will engender development in the society said that every soul should take active part in ensuring that cleanliness is put on the front burner.

"My dear children in the nation building, the stake is higher from your perspective because the society expects much from you to lead a war against all filthiness and dirty environment as this breeds sicknesses and diseases which result into huge expenses for treatment".

"You should not fail to let the people of the society know the evil of living in a dirty environment through constant advocacy campaign and sensitisation that clean environment and healthy living is an antidote to diseases and sickness".

She said that NYSC, over the years has metamorphosed into a veritable platform that engenders the growth of Nigerian development

The NYSC Ondo State boss who was competently represented by the Assistant Director/Head, Corps Discipline and Reward, Mrs. Adejoke Ayodele Fashola reminded the graduate youths of the theme of this year's World Health Day tagged 'Our Planet, Our Health' and admonished everyone to secure themselves against avoidable diseases and sicknesses by ensuring that they live and encourage others to live in a clean environment, as well as obey the non pharmaceutical protocols of COVID -19.

"Based on this premise, I will want to advise you that activities of today should not be limited to gathering here once in a while to clean public places, but you should take the message to your respective homes and communities that cleanliness will ensure you live a peaceful life and reduce your frequenting hospitals and medical facilities for the treatment of avoidable ailments and sicknesses associated with living in a dirty and bushy environment" she concluded.

The Executive Chairman of Ose Local Government, Hon Prince Adekunle Adebola Dennis (FCPA) who personally monitored the exercise alongside his management team in the Council area commended the NYSC Scheme for thinking good about the society.

The Executive Chairman said that he was impressed with the level of awareness campaign in the Local Government, a situation which made people to troop out en-masse for the cleaning exercise.

"I am impressed with the organisational ability of the NYSC team in the state. They are committed and dependable set of individuals who make routine sacrifice to build our youths into becoming better Nigerians and leaders of the foreseeable future that we can be proud of".

On our part, we shall continue to give support in all ramifications to the Scheme so that the lofty objectives and the dreams of the founding fathers are not only achieved but sustained.

He called on the opinion leaders, political office holders and philanthropists in the society to rally support for the Scheme so that the five-point agenda of the NYSC Director General, Major General Shuaibu Ibrahim would be achieved seamlessly.
