As Nigerian workers join the rest of the world to celebrate workers’ day, the General Coordinator, Potters House Christian Mission, Pastor Segun Ariyo, has called on workers to be committed to absolute service to God, humanity and the nation at large.
Ariyo made the call on Sunday during a workers’ day seminar organised by the Cross Fire Media, a Christian-based media outfit in Ibadan.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the seminar has, ‘Rekindling The Fire of Service of The Nigerian Worker’ as its theme.
Ariyo urged workers to always serve tirelessly whether there will be reward or not.
“Let’s serve even if the reward is not coming from humans, it will surely come from God.
“Workers, especially Christians, should always pray for their leaders and employers and serve in such a way that others will see God’s light in them and emulate them,” he said.
He cited the examples of Joseph and Obadiah in the Bible, who despite serving under wicked and godless leaders, served with loyalty and faithfulness.
“Joseph served in Egypt with all of his heart. He was loyal to his master and never did anything negative; family wise, there was nothing for Joseph, yet he was committed to rendering service.
“Obadiah was the Chief of Staff of a palace in Israel but while he was serving, he showed his loyalty unto God by hiding some prophets in caves from being killed.
“Workers face challenges of delayed salaries, insecurity of jobs, fear of poverty after retirement, among others. Despite these challenges, we cannot withdraw from serving the government because we think they are not doing well.
“God is aware of every formation of Nigeria, I still believe in the oneness of our country because it belongs to God.
“So, if we don’t play our part as workers, we may eventually lose this country completely,” he said.
Ariyo stressed the need for Christians to rise and bring the kind of healing God was looking for in Nigeria through their services.
“What you believe as a child of God should be seen in the way you serve as a worker and as a Christian, you must take time to read to develop your capacity and competence.
“God has given us the commitment to keep our house (country), so we should not fail to do so.
“There is still hope for us, it may look blank completely but there is still hope, God is still going to raise Nigerian workers,” he said.
Earlier, the coordinator of Cross-Fire Media, Mr Moses Solanke, urged workers never to give up on their committed service to the nation, despite all challenges.
“The Nigerian worker is supposed to be rejoicing on a day like this that he has been given an opportunity to contribute his quota to the growth of his fatherland.
“But is the worker really rejoicing, but despite all, let’s still keep our hope alive and contribute our own quota to the nation’s development,” he said.
