The Ondo State Commandant of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Mr Mumini Raji has stressed the need for youths to abstain from taking ellicit drug.
The Commandant spoke in Ore, headquarters of Odigbo local government during a routine sensitisation programme organised by the agency for the youths in the area.
He said the advise became imperative, noting that abstaining from taking hard drugs will not benefit the society alone, but reduce the rate at which youths papetrate in what he called criminal activities.
The Ondo NDLEA boss while expressing serious concern and displeasure at which Nigerian youths abused drugs, noted that the effects apart from having negative effects on their future will also have an effects on the younger generations.
"Apart from being hazardous to health, and economic system at large, the alarming rate in criminal activities are occasioned to drug abuse among Nigeria youths.
Earlier, the Agency Area Commander in the local government, Mr Wisdom Aguomo said the sensitization was organised to counsel the youths in the area on the negative effects in taking hard drug.
He appealed to the Government, communities stakeholders, religion leaders to assist the agency on the need to wade away drug addicts within the society, urging them to alert the agency for the proper arrest of suspects within their immediate environment.
He however urged the youths to deviate from taking hard drugs capable of damaging their lives and causing social unrest in the country.
The Chairman of Odigbo local government, Mrs Margret Akinsuroju, commended the agency for the programme.
Akinsuroju, however called for a synergy between the agency and traditional rulers to collaborate in tacking the sales and use of hard drugs, adding that proper checkmating should be required to save the society from unruly behaviours.
