The Nigeria Labour Congress, Ondo State council joined hundreds of thousands of sympathisers both within and outside the state to condemn in absolute terms, the mindless killing of Christian worshippers at the St. Patrick Catholic Church, Owaluwa in Owo town.
To us, the wicked act was totally condemnable to say the least. The unprovoked deadly attack came to us like a thief in the night right there while they were worshipping.
This, no doubt has again reaffirmed the need for our security forces to work more on intelligence gathering as the basis for executing national security. Must people die before strategies for ensuring safety are worked out? Enough of this bloodshed in our land!
The Congress while condoling with the Governor and good people of Owo community, wish to salute the courage of Mr. Governor who was on assignment but, had to rush home yesterday as a true leader and see the situation first hand.
We equally, send our heartfelt condolences to His Imperial Majesty, Kabiesi Gbadegesin Ogunoye III, the Olowo of Owo and all those who lost their loved ones in the dastardly act that robbed the ancient town of the souls of very eminent Nigerians both native and resident of Owo community.
The loss of these precious lives, is another wake up call to all leaders across every strata of leadership and good spirited Nigerians to be up and doing as security is the task of ALL.
As we mourn the painful and heinous death of our fellow compatriots, we urge every citizen of the State to be vigilant and report useful information to our security men for prompt response and action. Also, the killers MUST be brought to justice as unmasking them will no doubt be a soothing balm to the bereaved.
May our land never be visited again by wicked men whose happiness is the pain of others.
